Slavery and religion

By: Weston Hill Theoharis

Historically, slavery has been regulated, supported, or opposed on religious grounds. In Judaism, slaves were given a range of treatments and protections. They were to be treated as an extended family with certain protections, and they could be freed. They were property but could also own material goods. http://slaveryandremembrance.org/articles/article/?id=A0059

Slavery was the foundation of American wealth, everything was extremely labor incessive. Christianity was used to justify slavery itself. They were regarded as property, forced to do anything. The bible indorses slavery. There is so much historical complication, the most critical thing I think is the word of slavery is a different way than the ancient world did.

Slavery has evolved for the past years. Slavery in the old testament is very clear that Israel is suffering. The slave trade sold them like cattle. Everyone went against the bible. It was practiced in the modern world.  Slavery in the roman empire, was an arrangement. They were very well educated. Slaves would teach others, make them smarter, slavemasters learned how to read. They started reading there bibles, etc.

Slavery in the ancient world was never racialized. It was a whole system that one group of people are somehow suited for these tasked, did not matter about color what so ever. Slavery in the bible, we are talking about something that was an economic arrangement. Back then a slave would mean a "brother".

In the end, Slavery and religion has evolved so much as the years have gone by. It is quite interesting on how and truly why things have happened how they happened.

Promote Tolerance

 Promoting Tolerance

By: Weston Hill Theoharis

The free exchange of ideas should be encouraged to promote the discovery of the truth and enhance the faculties of individuals. In tolerating or permitting different views to challenge prevailing opinion, humans have argued that these ideas may be true, contain part of the truth, or in fact be true by themselves.

Toleration and respect for a diversity of viewpoints is grounded in a practical analysis that stresses that we are all better off in allowing a diversity of opinions rather than in censoring them.

People have the freedom of speech and have the right to have any point of view they decide as well as want. Humans have to become aware of sensitivity in this aspect, meaning that some humans are going to say some hurtful things because of the freedom of speech but we all have to learn how to adapt to this lifestyle.

Hurtful statements can effect ones tolerance and proceed to make them shut down. A lot of people today have no filter and I truly feel bad for the people that are getting attacked by this tolerance, instead the need to build a tolerance level on how to deal with this freedom of speech aspect.

Humans have the right to basically say anything towards one another, so a lot of people must adapt and come up with fundamental tools on Promoting this tolerance. Adaptation to someone's culture can be sometimes a rude awakening.

Some ways to learn how to promote tolerance include using positive comments to shape as well as reinforce someone's behavior. Teach them about new places, new things, new culture. At the end of the day when someone says something that you personally don't want to hear, you just need to adjust into killing them with kindness. https://www.npeiv.org/news/promoting-tolerance

Other theories argue that the purpose of the First Amendment is to promote self-expression or to foster democracy. Tolerance theory seems more encompassing in that it seems to explain the importance of free expression by way of its importance to both democracy and self expression. https://www.mtsu.edu/first-amendment/article/1024/tolerance-theory

Tolerance also suggests that the right to criticize public officials should be encouraged, even if some factual errors permeate the comments, such as in order to promote open and free inquiry. the belief that promoting expressive freedoms will make individuals and institutions more open to ideas than they would be otherwise. The origin of this idea can be traced to Mill’s essay is a defense of individual freedom over paternalism and of free thought over dogma and the tyranny of the majority.

In conclusion, promoting tolerance is a significant theory that the United states addresses in the first amendment. This states that every human being can say basically anything towards another human being.

"The Supreme Court of the United States is the highest federal court in the country and is also head of the judicial branch. It was established by the U.S. Constitution, the Supreme Court has the jurisdiction over all the laws towards the United States and is in charge for evaluating the constitutionality of these laws". https://www.whitehouse.gov/about-the-white-house/our-government/the-judicial-branch/

The main role is suppose to be the guardian of the constitution. It is the most important institution, they decide who is going to be president, as well as they are notoriously private. Every individual in the supreme court is nominated. They form a major part for the precedency. Sometime justice will throw a curve ball.

The supreme court came from the separation of power, a third branch of government. They sit in the nations capitol. It has evolved overtime by the power of judicial review. This helps shapes the balance of power. Supreme court members serve for the remainder of there life, but sometimes they can become impeached. https://www.uscourts.gov/about-federal-courts/educational-resources/about-educational-outreach/activity-resources/about

They receive around 7,000 petitions but only choose around 100 cases. They discuss any of the cases, and they choose there cases by having privacy rights, etc. Hearings began in October all the way till June. The hearings are open towards the public. The supreme court come to the conclusion and since there are 9 members, one side always wins. Decisions are usually split.

They implement decisions are sometimes limited, sometimes they must rely on executive and legislature to help them with the decision making. In the end, they hold a lot of responsibilities for the united states of America, and it is also an extreme deal for creating and upholding new as well as old laws.
